So now that you have a picture of the main characters, here’s something you need to know. Although we all have our own separate lives, they are all intertwined by GOYA. GOYA is where most Greeks come together and spend their adolescent years. Sounds like high school, but there’s one difference. Unless you move, you will see them every year for the rest of your life at the church’s main events (the occasional diner dance, Easter, and Festival). Why is this a major difference? The answer is simple. What happens in those 6 years of GOYA, will haunt you for the rest of your life, because you can’t hide from anyone.
The GOYA year revolves around four main events and four minor events. The major events are the Christmas Dance, Sights & Sounds, Olympics, and the annual church Festival, and the minor events are the Kick-off Dance, The Bowling Tourney, The JC Tourney, and the Valentines dance. During these events and the preparations for these events, the outside world stops and the world of GOYAns officially runs our lives.
Just so you know that although I’m writing about what’s going on in my life, I’m write in the third person, because I know what was going around everywhere where I wasn’t and sometimes other’s conversations are more important at the time they occurred rather than when I found out about the conversations. Also, when paragraphs begin with quotes, then the conversation switches between people. In the event of a long conversation between more than 2 people, then I will make the conversation in script format, AKA Name of person talking: what they say *any actions or important directions* Mostly because I find it cheesy having Maria said, Niko exclaimed, Youla asked with a puzzled expression for a long period of time. Some chapters have italicized beginnings in order to give you information about the events that occur and what is going on.
The first years of GOYA for my group of friends were pretty simple, because we still were learning what we were getting into. At this point our lives, we are approaching the end of the third year of GOYA. Well most of us are. Me, Youla, Aleka, Maria, and Yanni are all freshman, Petro and Andoni are sophomores, and Elena is a 7th grader. Although it is Elena’s first year in GOYA, she’s been part of our group of friends because she is Andoni’s sister. Anyway, I think I’ve bored you enough with the intro so time to get to the story. Oh before I start telling you what happened, there’s one more thing you should know. This story is based on true events.
